Responsibilities of the BOB Coach

  • Register school for competition by the October 31 deadline. 

  • Reinforce that the focus of this program is to celebrate the love of reading and promote fun and fair play for both teams and spectators.

  • Become familiar with the rules and procedures and commit to following them. 

  • Purchase BOB books for students to borrow.

  • Request BOB books from Hong Kong Public Library branches serving your school community. 

  • Encourage student participation.

  • Promote BOB books using promotional materials.

  • Encourage and moderate discussions about the books. 

  • Prepare the team by reviewing procedures and rules. 

  • Conduct practice battles. This will help students become familiar with the rules and build confidence. 

  • Direct teams in writing their own practice questions if additional questions are desired. 

  • Volunteer to host a semi final or final competition (if possible).

  • Communicate and confirm attendance with designated semi and final hosts.

  • Volunteer for a role (Moderator, Judge, Scorekeeper, Timekeeper) at competitions.

  • Follow school protocols for arranging field trips and securing a school bus for students to competitions.

  • Secure additional teacher and/or adult supervision for competitions.

  • Follow HK BOB rules and guidelines and model fairplay. 

  • Manage audience behavior during competitions.
